As I understand it the osmotic power is only used to push the water up to a hight so it can be used to drive turbines before it ends up in the sea as it wouldve done anway so I do not think it will do any harm.

the sun is not going to go supernova, its a small main sequence star which will burn in its present state for ~5 billion more years before running out of Hydrogen, becoming a red giant and engulfing the innermost planets. Once its out of the heavier elements, it will die as a white dwarf, its too small to go nova/supernova.

If were still here in 5 billion years, Ill eat my hat.

it certainly is, not just for us but it would solve overnight the problems of countries like Iran who say they want a power reactor while the West suspects they actually want a bomb.

If they really want a power reactor and not a bomb, then Thorium will do them just fine. Maybe there is a good reason were not using it, but if there is I dont know what it is.

The Iranians claim they want a power station. They have never asked for a bomb.

The West has never to my knowledge objected to their having a power station per se, just to the posibility of making a bomb from enriched uranium or waste plutonium from a power reactor.

Shockingly enough, no one seems over keen to give anyone who doesnt already have them nuclear weapons.

A technology exists whereby Iran can be given the ability to make a power station without confering the ability to make a bomb. If that interpretation of Thorium reactor technology is correct, and I believe it is, then the obvious answer for western governments is to offer Iran a Thorium reactor.

Either way global warming is a real issue, the Arctic and Antarctic are defrosting, the glaciers are retreating. There is no way to fake that easily. The only real question is are we causing it or is it a natural phenomenon.

Really these polls do not represent an accurate picture of what public opinion is. In America there are occasional polls on abortion, which always come up heavily against. The reason for this is simple, the Christian groups are highly integrated and well linked. One person sees the poll and votes, then phones up loads of their Christian friends who also vote and phone more people. The avalanche of voting quickly overwhelms the actual vote.
