So I need a new phone as the one I have is shocking.

My choices it seems are

Iphone. $200 plus $90 a month contract.
G1. $200 plus $65 a month contract.
Blackberry Storm if I have too but I didnt like it when my bird had one.

Any other suggestions? I fancy something I can check email on.

the blackberry is wank and the iphone is not quite as nice to use as the G1 imo.

Whats wrong with an N96? does everything I want & need, including push email to my work email server,
Garmin Sat Nav (with a few hacks & workarounds), etc.

Storm is slow as hell, we have one at work I was playing around with. Dont rate it at all.  The Bold is the nicest of the "Real" Blackberrys, but I personally like the 8220.  Im using an 8120 at the moment, and other than the lack of 3G its brilliant.  They are actually bringing out a new Blackberry soon, Its basically a Bold with a screen like the Storm.  

G1 is crap, its just awful in build quality to its competitors.  I have one of them in my desk draw atm, and every time I flip out the screen I wait for the hinge to snap.  You pick it up and its like a cheap toy.

iPhone?  I thought you where straight!

get a Jesus phone - there is no comparison to be made tbh....

plenty of people at my place have been given the latest blackberrys etc... by the company - a decent portion have still gone and purchased Iphones for their personal mobile.

The new Nokia? Wait for some of other smartpones to hit US stores in the next month or so?

You got the new Motarola smart touch screen phone along with LG, Samsungs, Palm Pre (I am getting ths) and others. Will be a lot more choice in just a month or sos time.

Whats the new Motorola one, and will it be really expensive? You dont get the latest phones cheap here like you do in the UK,.

The N96 is not available on Verizon.

Its not on AT&T either. Those are the two networks I need to use.

Same here, Uk actually does well in the mobile phone and price plans. There is a lot of competition so it is quite good in the UK...

Palm And Nokia have app services and stores coming, Samsung I think do too. Others probably working on their own app stores as well.

Palm Pre is a business phone and has a lot of power and use and full multi-tasking capabilities. It is all webkit based so all your apps are xml, xhtml, css, javascript and the SDK bits for the phone so you will be able to make your own apps for it Sam if you need it to do something that does not exist through other apps etc.

Meh, I love my iPhone, sounds like youre getting raped on the call plan though

What does the UK call plan cost ?

8Gb is free (57 for 16Gb) on a 24month contract at £34 and a few pence a month on 02 and £100/157 ish at £29.00 p/m

You can get a G1 for $100 with $65 a month. I am leaning towards that especially as apple also want another $36 activation fee.
