Title: My own personal epic dentist fail...
Post by: Rivkid on November 11, 2009, 21:23:59 PM
Went to the dentist yesterday for the first time in YEARS! Wasnt too bad - she said I needed a bit of cleaning done so she did the first 4 teeth. All well and good and relieved to have finally been.

Then 4 hours on Im in a&e with a huge hematoma in my mouth from the back and overlapping / enveloping my bottom teeth!!! Blood - everywhere. Triage nurse (and this is a quote) "f**k me Ive never seen anything like that before!" Then some crappy junior took 3 attempts to get blood and ended up having to take it from my pelvis.... Its not been good.

Seems to be coming down a bit now - sick of luke warm soup through a straw though :(

Wow, that is pretty epic. Any ideas what caused it? Allergic reaction to the abrasives they use when cleaning teeth or something? (wouldnt have thought it would have happened unless she did something to your gums otherwise surely?)

Lol Ive no idea if the dentist was to blame really - not sure she could have done much different to be fair. All she did was clean the gack from inbetween them with some kind of drill thingy. Maybe I just have sensitive gums? Im going to discuss it with her at the next session - cant have this again its mental (2 days off work!). The worst part was a&e saying they were going to send me home without any treatment while it was still getting bigger! Luckily my missus kicked up a bit of a fuss at that point and they changes their minds!

Good news is a huge chunk fell off last night! So much relief lol!! Going to go try and eat something - really hoping the rest falls off today!

she could have drilled through an artery or somthing

find a no win no fee specialist... if you win you can then afford to go private  :w00t:

I certainly wouldnt let you near either. Male dentists are often far worse than female.

A hematoma is a blood leak under the skin, it can be caused by a great number of possible things. They include bruises too.

Chances are a weak wall in a blood vessel burst and filled up the local area below the skin. This can rarely be caused through dental work but should stop quickly. Questions being why did it go and why didnt it stop.

Rivkid, go see your dic too, its worth having a word with them to make sure they know.

Got worse!!

Well after the blood clot fell off on Thursday morning as they said it would I had a good day. Then cleaned my teeth really well before bed - mistake! Woke up at 1.30am in agony with the pain at the back again (i.e. seperate problem to the blood clot!). Had to go back to dentist on Friday after no sleep and serious pain and shed missed a cavity somehow. She didnt want to do more work until shes referred me to the hospital for more blood work to understand why I bleed so much so for now shes given me a temp filling / dressing which seems to have stopped it hurting. Once Ive got the all clear from the hospital Ive got to have the tooth out :(

At least my teeth are starting to get back into good condition now - and Im not in any pain anymore!!
