Then again I've heard the same sort of stuff from followers of several religions and similar rubbish from various politicians and scientists aren't exactly totally unknown for rejecting things which later turned out to be.

Please note that I'm not going to point out that relativity states that to the earth it is indeed not turning, the rest of the universe turns around it, but the same could be claimed for every rotating particle or object.
