I was reffering to the outside temperature at the time, having just walked back in.

Tonights little f***up :
Please install IIS on an XP Pro client machine.

Sounds easy, even as a remote install.  however someone forgot to put the disk back in the CD drive, and nobody is on-site.  Not a problem, ill just map the drive to the software server, they have an XP Pro image there.  Drive mapped, someone has deleted the OS Image directory with 2k, XP and 2k3 in it.  Oh joy, not a problem ill just upload the relevant files and download them to the machine over the net.  Not ideal but it does work.  Oh, the firewall is blocking me, ill add myself to the right group to get through the firewall.  Joy, Mimesweeper is now saying i cant download, add myself to that group too.  download again, and something is corrrupting the install files.

I give up, im going to bed and the £500-a-day contractor can turn up on-site tomorrow and wait for us to get the image put back on the software server.  We arent paying for it, the muppets who removed the image are :)

redneck

bump.

this is my last assignment all nighter before i come home. ive worked solidly (no weekends off) for abour 35 days now. pretty mentally exhausted. i can barely operate a coffee machine atm. just waiting 3 an a bit hours till the print room is open, so im polishing work till i can get everything printed and handed in.

so cant wait to go home.

Beaker

gah!

Im just pushing software out to sites and rolling through the fault list.  The machines that havent installed for whatever reason.  Just sat here installing office 2k3 for one of the VIP users, and some retard has just turned the box up.  To quote him when i called and asked them to turn in back on "Ive just turned it off, im not going back up there to turn it back on".  This was even after Ive explained who its for (a lady one step down from his Ultimate Boss).  I have his name, ive entered the details into the ticket, and ive e-mailed the user.  Its not my arse thats going to get punched, but i could have been in bed an hour ago!

and another job-related whine.  I *love* working nights.

1 medium/large network, over 2 subnets.  on-site IT staff did some changes they are now denying they did.  Love these people sometimes.

What else are fathers for?

Just spending a little extra time writing. Nothing else to do, except sleep, and I doubt if that will come easily to me.
