Epic win. Congratulations.   That kind of raise will make a real difference to your quality of life.

Anything to do with the likely reduction in bonuses? 33% would need a promotion at least for me.

Thanks both.

Egg, what have you done to your leg?

sexytw, nothing to do with a likely reduction in bonus.   I hope :D  Ive been asking for a pay rise for well over a year, its also to do with the mergers and pay being fair across the team(were a split of ex A&L and ex Abbey).  Finally its all come together.

wear & tear
Woke up in July & couldnt stand. its got a lot better now, where I can manage to walk a little, but anything intensive puts me back to square 1.  Xrays show very little, so waiting for an MRI to see if its arthritis or a tear.

Is this in your knee? Ankle? Somewhere else?

That sucks dude - this is why I love BUPA - can get an MRI booked in less than a week - the NHS sucks and has waiting lists for most non serious stuff.

Think mine cost BUPA for about £700 so if this is something preventing you from working then it would probably be better to perhaps dip into savings and shell out for one yourself vs the amount of income youll have lost waiting for the NHS.

Then find some alternative work to do?

Reality is Ive been in the same boat for a while, and while under £100 a week is difficult to live on you get used to it - eventually. They do shove it up a little after the first year.

Oh, even if they do find something there might be nothing they can do about it, dont get your hopes up too high. I was expecting to be off for three months maximum, back in 1996...

I cant do alternative work. I am going to ask if I can do permitted work & look for odd days here & there - your allowed to earn up to £95 a week that way.
I can just about manage a normal day. I went to the local country park for an hour last week & took 2 days before I could walk again :gag:
If I can do permitted work, then I can look for part time or weekend work & have the rest of the week to recover. My biggest cashflow problem at the moment is my mortgage
as my protection insurance doesnt kick in until the end of this month. I was hoping to do some accountancy/bookkeeping courses, but said It would affect my benefits as Id be classed as a student.
Then they backtracked, but it was to late to start a course then. Accountancy/Bookkeeping I could do at home in my own time for small businesses. That would be perfect for me.

As for BUPA, I cancelled my membership a few years ago as I never used it + they wouldnt treat it because I have had a knee condition all my life.
Its a bit pointless paying for an MRI as I need surgery & to what extent I dont know yet. My doc says I have arthritis & hinted at a knee replacement, but thats for a specialist to decide.
I had this knee looked at when I was 12 & the same diagnosis then as last week... "I dont know whats wrong" only difference is 20 years ago they wanted to slice me open to have a look,
Where today I can have an MRI Scan. On the plus side, the specialist asked if we can have conference meeting next time with a bunch of other specialists... so Ill be getting a 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th opinion  :w00t:

The top of my tibia is twisted & out of shape, my patella moves to the outside of my knee & my thigh muscle has wasted to the point of being 10cm less than my good leg. So theres probably a few things wrong!

hmmm sorry for thread hijack :oD

Sorry to hear its your knee Egg.  My knee hasnt been right since my accident in the summer.  I probably need to see someone about it now as its clearly not getting any better even though Ive given up running and cycling.
