Title: Prescribed Sunglasses
Post by: FuMaN on June 30, 2008, 14:25:14 PM
I went into a few opticians at the weekend hoping to get some prescribed aviators but never having asked for them I got told by everywhere I went that it cant be done due to my high prescription because of the curved lenses of wraparound sunglasses.. Bitterly disappointed I came home and googled and came across a few places that will do it. I emailed one of them and they replied with

QuoteWe use CR-39 lenses with indexes 1.56 (Standard Thin), 1.6 (Super Thin) and 1.67 (Ultra Thin). Polycarbonate lenses are not only thinner and lighter in weight than traditional plastic / glasses eyeglass lenses, but they also offer ultraviolet protection and scratch resistance. These lenses are also very impact resistant. The durability, effectiveness and comfort of the material make them the lenses of choice.

Has anyone had experience of this?

Not with sunnies but thin lenses yes.  I have one eye much much worse than the other which with standard lenses meant that I had one lense incredibly thick (to the point that one pair I had wouldnt close properly because the lense blocked it). I was recommended the thin lenses which cost a lot more but obviously for me work much better. They offered me at the time the opportunity to tint and have sunnies made so Im guessing its the same thing. Didnt opt for it but Im told they worked fine.

Its these that Im looking to get and the reason Im getting them is because after trying loads of pairs on they were the only ones that suited me. I know Oakleys will do high prescription but they just dont suit my face.
