And Prince Harry calls army buddy "our little Paki friend"
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090112/tuk-harry-comment-unacceptable-pm-6323e80.html
The strange thing is, while I understand the racist row around this I think that it can be perfectly acceptable to those involved. If any of them had issue with the terms involved then they wouldnt be, in some cases these can actually be nicknames that the person has selected for themselves. IMO its entirely how the term is used rather than the words that are used.
Graham Smith in the first link is obviously stupid, of course the royals live in an isolated world to an extent we all still do, even with internet news provided 24/7. The only slight surprise here is that the OTT PC brigade arent aware of how isolated their world really is.
Anyone here have issues being called whitey? Is modern society being so overly PC on this that non-infractions are being blown up out of all proportion?
I generally find the concesus for what is socially acceptable is changing all the time.
I really dont see the offence Harry caused. He might as well be saying our little Essex friend, or our little Geordie friend. For saying out little paki friend, it was instant a case of racial hatred and discrimination.
You hear it all the time, I know one Financial adviser who is reffered to as the jolly little indian guy....because he is. The way its going it will be racial discrimination to identify anyone in no other way but their name.
MPs like Hazel Blears I really cannot take seriously, she reminds me of the arrogany mother type which still has 1960s, 70s, 80s social way of life preprogrammed into her head. Shes trying cut down on council estate foot ball, mainly because of violence with kids? So the f**k what if kids kick off with each other?
Whats next they will stop their being a winning and losing side because of the emotional stress on the losing side?

people got nothing better to do....
20 years ago theyd write a letter - these days they rather get on a soapbox & shout about it.
Im offended that people are offended by it. I bet my left nut though when they order takeaway they ask who wants what down the chinkypoos
Harry probably gets more racial abuse in the army due to being ginger.
If he was referring to Asian people in general then yes it would be cause for concern, as a nickname for a mate in the army well the press really do need to get a grip and stop making sensationalist non stories out of stuff like this.
I Agree.
However it was a little naive of him to think that he can say something like that in his position and not have a tonne of bricks come down
True - he certainly deserves (and has probably had) a massive bollocking from his CO for being dumb enough to record such a word on tape and the resulting -ve publicity for the army. though thats about it.
The calls for him to be sacked or to apologize in person to XYZ self appointed british pakistani/muslim council/group/club etc.. are a complete joke.....

Paki. n. [slang] abbreviation of Pakistani
Brit. n. [slang] abbreviation of British
Wheres the problem? The Micks, sorry, the Oirish, called us Brit bastards (not to mention murdered our men, women and children) for years. Did we take offence at being called Brits? Did we f**k.
People are far too sensitive these days - get a grip, FFS!
"Paki" is a funny one, for me anyway its use is completely based on context. Generally Ive no problem with it being used provided the other party is okay with it, its just a slang term and there are hundreds of others in use every day. That said you do hear "paki" being used both as a catch all term for anyone who is asian (intensely irritating and ignorant) by those less enlightened members of society, and also screamed as a term of abuse on frequent occasions by England shirt wearing, BNP voting, Daily Mail reading neanderthals.

The "problem" is that the word "paki" has been used as a derogotory word and in the past frequently used in an offensive manner, I think if Harry had said "its our little negro friend" this would have been a whole lot worse....
At the end of the day its a term which people find offensive, regardless of weather or not you find it offensive!!
I do not find the "N" word offensive to me but im quite sure millions of people do.
In friend circles the term is probably acceptable, the N word, the P word, all of it, if your friends are happy with it and/or choose to call themselves it. Therefore what Harry was doing was not that wrong, assuming the soldier was/is not offended by the term. BUT he should have known better than to say it on video, he should have known he has to set a public example...

If the french, for example, invaded england, stole all of the peoples land, murdered HALF of the entire population, appointed landlords that allowed the populace to die under their rule, made it law that none of the majority of the population could be represented in government, Im sure there would be some animosity there too!

The Irish (land-owners) sold the Irish out - just like the African warlords sold the African people out to slavery. Its often convenient for people to bury facts.
From what I remember from school some pope allowed some king to invade ireland because they didnt pay their fees to the church, then something with black death, then henry 8 invaded again, couple of wars, then they had the plantation of ireland where they sent people over to take the land over?
Dont know much else about it tbh

Normans - again! This time promising to sort out the Irish churches and pay Rome.
The ones Eagle is going on about were later protestant landlords doing the nasty on the Catholics who rented the land back.
Ah, thats different then - as the protestants were shipped over from England surely?
Quote from: Eagle...just like the African warlords sold the African people out to slavery.
Even Oprah conceded this when she visited her homeland.
Dont believe the hype said Public Enemy. Yes, how true.
So did the Normans! They invaded England (1066) and then went on to invade Ireland from here.
