ive been suffering from dehydration alot recently - hard training sessions on the bike and in the gym; ive noticed that when i get really dehydrated and stressed physiologically, my knuckles and wrist joints ache, like burning sensations, is this normal in the case of severe dehydration? the pain does recede after rehydration, could it be arthritis?

cheers

dan.

I get chest pains from dehydration, problably as my bloods nice and thick.

Dehydration has a score of symptoms. I wouldnt doubt that fluid lost in the joints would cause pain. ;)

When I get dehydrated hill-walking in the rougher bumpy bits up north, I often get a headache. But I get sore toes in the cold sometimes, completely relieved by getting into a warm car..

Im racked with pain quite regularly and its never stopped me when I wanted to, get yourself a nice big baseball bat with metal studs, then wear some thick gloves...

the problem is probably not just dehydration although try drinking rehydration fluids before and during exercise to see if that helps ;)

I have arthritis and just typing on a keyboard causes me quite a bit of pain. Really arthritis means inflamation of the joints and has both many causes and effects, it does tend to hit active people more but your system gets used to it and compensates.

The only way to confirm if its underlying arthritis is to have the tests and x-ray the joints affected, even then there isnt much they can do about it.

Woah...dosent that seriously (no pun intended) affect your life....if it hurts to do somthing like typing....and to think you post here so much :S

There are ways to illeviate keyboard related pain :)

I used to suffer RSI. Made me realise that I needed to change my equipment and learn some new practices.

1 Natural Keyboard, and 1 Trackball later.

Voila... no more hand pain or elbow pain, Still sometimes get stabbing pains if I am doing a hardcore type like a nutter session but yeah, nothing like what I used to get.

As for dehydration... joint pain could probably be the cause of it, but you should watch it mate, fill that platy or camelback with dioralyte if you really need it. It aint meant for extended use but its gotta be better than just dying. :D

Its only pain, you get used to it   or find other ways to get around it. Quite often I type using only one hand then change over if it hurts too much... /waits for innuendo...

What works for one may not work for another, a natural keyboard can help but not everyone is happy with a trackball. Really its a case of trying things and seeing what works.

my sister suffered from bad RSI through typing, so she went to see a specialist who taught her to type differently, and now no more RSI and still super fast typing :)

as for the de-hydration... dont worry about it, but drink more, that pain is there to tell you something bad is happening / being damaged

dehydration - I basically get a bit of a headache when dehydrated

Froget the fancy sports drinks just drink lots + eat a few banannas and maybe put a (very) small ammount of salt in your juice if youre doing a shed load of phys and its a hot day.

Water, potassium, complex carbohydrates and a bit of salt - good as anything ;)
