Religion should butt-out and stick to praying/starting wars etc...

MPs should decide law - thats what theyre paid for - not the Church

Mongoose

Like any other entity in this country, the Church has the right to freedom of speach.

Similarly, we and our political leaders have the right to ignore them if we see fit.

This is a decision which should only be taken by people with all the facts available to them. It is an important decision as this kind of science is getting quite close to madman-with-big-hair-and-a-dodgy-laugh territory. Lets face it, if someone came to you and said "I think it would be neat to make a human-animal hybrid or two" youd probably not be in favour.

What needs to be determined is exactly what the researchers want to do, and why they want to do it. These things should be spelled out as clearly as possible to MPs, who should then be allowed to vote as they wish.

That is how a democracy is supposed to work, we elect people to act as our representitives. Those representitives then make decisions on our behalf having been presented with the facts.

The mass media will, as usual, feed us whatever warped and enhanced version of the truth they think will sell the most papers.

In short, my considered opinion is that I am not qualified to have a valid opinion on this matter.

its quite easy...

allow it & anyone who dont want because of their morals/values, dont have it.

lets see them campaign against it if their kid had an illness that could be cured by this

I put a question up to deal with poll response some time ago. Providing there is an ambiguity in who cloning will help people vote against it, but as soon as its personal - you/your loved one is suffering - then it becomes polarized in favor.

However, I think Mongoose is right, it certainly encroaches on the Churchs beliefs, therefore it should involve them. Otherwise you could say the same about abortion, child molesters, rapists or murderers, and include any other criminals and negative acts you can think of in that.

TauSeti

This is a difficult question, Im all for womens rights, but after 5 weeks the small buggers hearts beats and if scanned you tend to be emotionally tied to the whole process of child development and becoming a father or mother.  Yet sympathize with people who wish to not have children for whatever reason.

Saying all that the population is rather large!
