You appear to have problems with windows, the text on the icons appear to have gone red and squiggly?

I preordered and got the one down from ultimate for £45. To me thats not a bad price, considering that its the one piece of software you are always going to use. Its only £5-£10 more than the price of some new console games, which might only get 10 hours of use before being shelved.

You got Home Premium? Ive not seen Professional cheaper than £130 anywhere. Im on Pro now, and the RTM is as good as the RC.
Aye Home Premium, I got a bit messed up. I came to the decision that the extra features in Professional just werent worth the money, and that I doubt Id use them.

How much are people paying for Windows 7? Youre all mad. :P
I put Microsoft in my top hate bracket I deliberatly find cracks to screw them
Whereas theyre about the only company I dont ironically. Windows and Office are the things I use the most on a daily basis, so I can justify buying them.
Apps like Photoshop...expensive apps which you only occasionally use, for non-commercial things, is a grey area. Then there are expensive apps which cost a crapload (thousands) used in industry. I also find this a grey area, as my reasoning is that if employed by a company that uses it, they have paid for the licence already, what difference does it make if youre sat at the office or at home doing it. Admittedly some of these apps have floating licence thingymajigs so itd be technically possible for you to use it at home or work legitimately...
Plus for some reason I just think its asking for trouble using dodgy windows/office, given all the updates etc...
Quote from: PrivateerI put Microsoft in my top hate bracket I deliberatly find cracks to screw them
and yet you still use their software.....
Ill pay for Windows 7 probably - so far its been awesome. Im a big fan of Ubuntu but as an alternative for a browing laptop or something - its definitely not a replacement for Windows.

And who chose the awesome wallpaper? (:
You did, however I had already downloaded it for use.
As for Windows, I really dont see how anyone can think the £40 pre-order price half the forum seemed to buy it for could be considered anything but a bargain for a whole Operating System that allows you to use your computer. Its not just any piece of software.
If you are happy having an OS that is basically good for browsing the web, being a code monkey or writing a letter, great, let Ubuntu be your god. Or even OSX  If you use your PC for everything including games you need Windows tbh, thats just how it is.
Im happy to spend less than half a ton on a legal OS that doesnt need butchering to get updates and such. Its one piece of software actually worth paying for.

heres a question for you then, I have Call off Juraz, StreetFfighter4, RE5 and the devil may cry 4 all use dx 10, W7 and Vista are the only os that supports DX10, does Linux then.
Devil May Cry4 [DX10]
Okay, youve got me there. The Nvidia binary driver Im using doesnt yet support OpenGL 3.0, so theres no support (YET AFAIK, but very soon) for Geometry shaders.
I can however play some equivalents to the games you suggested:
Resident Evil 4 (http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5439/re4linux.jpg). (The muddy textures can also be vastly improved with a fan-made texture pack.)
Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
Super Castlevania IV (SNES) [All the DMC games have terrible PC ports]
Call of Juarez - No equivalent, but then who would play it on PC anyway? Ubisoft is notoriously poor at supporting its PC ports, even putting out broken patches that force a re-install. (http://kotaku.com/5358003/in-case-youve-patched-call-of-juarez-lately-)
If you could suggest some DX 9 games....Linux/WINE would fare much better; for example heres Crysis running. (http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/1396/crysislinux.jpg)

Linux is getting better and better I use Ubuntu and have had no reason to go back so far.
Youre almost making it tempting to dual boot a linux distro just to play Dungeon Keeper 2

Seems students will get a version of win 7 for £30, though the article doesnt elaborate on what version.
Not sure about the .edu email address thing, seeing as most unis here AFAIK use .ac.uk
Im sorted as being staff I have a uni email account ><
vista
The site Im surveying at the moment is a corridor under some overhead powerlines, where all the trees etc have had to be removed. Theres a fair few pylons along the corridor, and I was feeling creative, so I took a shot today from underneath, played a bit with the exposure and contrast in photoshop and added a slight twist :D
