Google just anounced what they will do with it
They will keep it more or less the same but will offer video uploads for amature and the pro (sony etc) and the revenue it makes from things the site will give a chunk to all people who have uploaded a video

Did not realise Youtube has only been up since febuary last year, and to sell for that much. The guys there must be rolling on the floor going nuts, party for them all week now
Now all the lawsuits will start flying at Google for having content which is breach of copyright. :-/

If I was a company wanting to fight someone over copyright, Id rather have fought YouTube than Google tbh.
Google may "dont be evil", but they have the financial and strength of numbers clout to potentially make changes to the way we get our media content beyond the scale of what has yet been seen.

You will be supprised, there are a few deals done with youtube and some media elements, Free advertising not decent high quality video so ok.
Why do you think some tv clips and music espcially stay on for so long on youtube either for a length of time or all the time.
You may be right that its now google and not a nothing company so some may wnat to bleed them for cash but i bet you there is a lot backdoor deals with youtube that alrleady exist and probably more for google otherwise they would not risk buying it for so much.
I bet you a big chunk of that money is for those deals youtube had

Yup copyright was introduced to stop people making money by blatently copying a product and claiming it as their own. We can thank Mr Walt Disney and a series of corporations for bastardising the law into what it is today.
Current copyright law is a joke.

Yup 100%. There was no point in suing youtube as the only thing they could achieve was shutting them down. They had no revenue model or income. It wasnt worth a companies risk to sue them as they got nothing out of it and would risk a court saying it was lawful and setting a precedent. They couldnt possibly extract money from youtube and the only thing they could achieve would be really bad press in the same way Metallica got hated for pursuing Napster.
Now its owned by google they have a truckton of money. The reason to sue just got interesting and Id bet google isnt going to risk that.

The thing is, the owners of Youtube had no money, Google has LOTS of money and thus will attract the lawsuits.
TBH im not bothered who owns a company providing it stays the same and still delivers what it always has.

youtube was already changing before this announcement, thats going to continue. A lot of the stuff on there is advertising and is being paid for, not enough for them to make money but given time.
