I sold my Rover SD1 to a guy on a forum yesterday, for £200. he is coming up from southamton for it on sunday.

a guy just knocked on my door and offered me £300 to take it now.

i dont like to let people down.

what do i do?

Eggtastico

Take the £300
You dont know the other guy, just tell him somthing needs doing thats gonna cost £100-120 to fix.. maybe the exhaust fell off.

SteveF

take the £300 if you dont know the other guy.

If the guy was coming up tomorrow it would be a different matter but Sunday - its not like its last minute.  Just say youve realised you need to keep it or something.  That said - if you have a spare car I may need it :D

Pete

Phone the guy and say the car broke down.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

All valid options. At the end of the day you do not know the guy and dont owe him any favours. Id tell him youve been offered £300 by someone, at least then it gives him the chance to outbid and take it off your hands if hes still willing, otherwise he obviously doesnt value it enough, in which case you are right to reject his offer anyway. ;)

No need for deception of any kind.

After waiting in all day for the first bloke to come and get it he decided he didnt want it, cnut!

should have let the second guy take it.

Dave

as bad as it seems Id agree with the rest of the replies - you should have gone for the 300 - so long as youd given the other guy prior warning - the agreement to buy/sell isnt binding till money changes hands - like clocked said there is no need for deception youd have just needed to say youd got a higher offer

bear

I wouldve called 1st guy to tell him £300.
