Quixoticish

Because thats just what Steve Irwin would have wanted.

Wankers.

Clock'd 0Ne

Thirded, utterly contemptible :disappointed:

Its just meatheads doing revenge attacks on rays, not the death video that the daily star is claiming is out on the net now :?

"youre alright mate! youre alright!"

Thrawn

Hunting down a rogue killer croc/lion/elephant is one thing but this is just silly and definitely not what Irwin would have wanted. (of course if it was me Id want the species that killed me made extinct but then Im just a vindictive sod :P)

maximusotter

Incredibly stupid, but its not like theyre clubbing some rare species to death. Rays is just fish, and theyre pretty common. Whats disgusting is the recent PETA comments about Irwin, theyre basically pissing on his grave.

I loved his enthusiasm, and though he did some outrageous stuff, it was only to call attention to the most unsympathetic of creatures. What I cant wrap my mind around is that while a die-hard conservationist, he was in his personal life an extremely conservative person, supporting the Australian hard-right, i.e.: he was all for protecting crocs AND gung ho for killing brown turbanheads in the ME. Nice.

Cant have your cake and eat it too, I guess.

Mardoni

Knobs but Im with thawn tbh.

As to his politics, what the hell have they got to do with this thread ? He was a top bloke regardless and so why try to dirty his name because you disagree with his stance ?

Some threads dont need to be turned into a political debate and this is one of them.

maximusotter

Ill be political when I want, thankyouverymuch. Just pointing out that he was a complex fellow who was able to create friends and enemies across the board. Theres no need to whitewash the dead. Ill still remember him as a zany and effective teacher.

Mardoni

ergh.

And if he was a soft as sh*te, middle of road, do gooder liberal youd have not bought his politics into it at all.

The man did a lot of good in the world and touched right across the board, obviously reaching some very troubled people who blame the fish :)

In a strange way, I hope I command his power when I die and that I die by wasp sting. Maybe then the world will be rid of the little critters :)

Wow, amazing, you can read my mind. Dont make such assumptions and dont stereotype me. [shot off your bow] I bring politics into any discussion when a person or situation contains a bit of cognitive dissonance, such as Irwins love of conservation, while supporting a hard right that refuses to sign on with Kyoto. Did I say that it made him a "bad person"? Youre reading into things.

Lets say it was Toby Keith, a big time cheesy country star that died. He writes songs about trucks and putting his boot up the ass of Arabs. Nice. And hes a Democrat. Makes you wonder about his personality is all. See, it goes both ways.

Anyway, I dont mean to be pedantic, but unless Im abusing another forum member in some way, back off.

Pete

All hail thee Max, thy comments are ever undisputable

Also, there was me believing "Cognitive dissonance" had a fairly tight definition.

In all seriousness, an interesting point :)
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

knighty

your all wrong !!!!

he wasnt attacked by 1 sting ray, about 20 of the feckers jumped him and tried to mug him, but he fought most of them off crocodile dundee stile until they got one lucky blow in

these ones being found now are just the ones he killed then being washed up late ;)

Dave

tis pretty sad that after handling some of the most dangerous animals on the planet he gets killed by a fish that has only ever been responsible for 3 known human deaths - think it is probably due to the fact he was not used to being in water - he is pretty quick at jumping back etc when on land.

as for the PETA criticism - who cares - everyone knows they are a bunch of soap dodging fools

also LOL @ max having to bring some politics into it - what a surprise

neXus

There are a lot of fakes around but the actual video is on the web, I have seen it and can say he knew he was in trouble and he was not dead when he went to the top of the water, he tried to go up and get help asap but the damage was done.

RIP Steve
