Well my wife is pregnant, baby due in 6 weeks.  I have been a smoker since 15, am 32 now.  Smoked 12-20 a day (rollies).

So, in a bid to not be a smoking parent, I decided to nail it.  Picked up some gum, and last cigarette was smoked on friday evening.  Withdrawal has had its moments, but I have to say the gum has been awesome as it really does take the edge off of it.  First day was not too bad, even went to the pub with my best mate for a few coldies, the smoking ban helped as I could not smell smoke.  I did get plastered on saturday night, although again, temptation was evident but did not prevail, so was very proud of myself.  Yesterday, again was not too bad, seemed to get through the day.

Today ... the toughest day of them all, am back at work, and as usual pretty bored, stressful environment.  Am doing ok, but have been very hot/cold with cravings and have sweaty hands.   Only here till 4 so fingers crossed I make it.  I think I am more focussed as I have done 2 days and it feels a shame to mess it up now.

I think the thing that is pulling me along, is the fact that I worry about my health at the best of times, and feel if I can crack this, even my love for actually having a cigarette will not worry any more.

Anyone else given up and succeeded, some encouraging words would be apprecaited!!   :0hnoes:

Stick with it!!

Im in the process of cutting down to a stop at the minute. Stopped smoking at work (which was hard!) and stopped smoking at home (really hard!) and obviously cant in the pub now. Just got to stop having the odd one when we go shopping and stuff and Im clean! Its been a long and tough road but I feel loads better for it.

..the extra money is great too!!

Good luck - and NEVER give up even if you have a set back.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Ive recently gone from 40 a day, to around 10, and I can really feel the benefit. Wish I could give up completely.

Good luck!

in next few weeks food will have stronger taste and when out in the field with the camera in hand you will stand a chance of smelling anything bad before you or your tripod stand in it ;)

Thanks, that made me laugh   -)

Cheers for all the support guys.  My cravings have settled back down again!  No doubt this thread will get a bump every so often!

Yeah the forth day is the worst, I quit many years ago forgot how many, I started using moist snuff after a while though which gives more nicotine but saves the lungs, I quit the snuff 4weeks + ago and it is a bitch but so far I have managed.
Nicotine is a mean poison and should be banned.

Yep, youre past the worst part of it and you clearly have the will to see it through for your own health and your babys. Stick with it! Youre doing great mate, well done!

Cheers guys!  Have popped to Tesco and so far have a mountain of food on my desk which I am rapidly making my way through.

I agree with bears comment!  It should be banned!

Keep yourself busy I found that was the key and when ever you think of having a cig, think of the health of yourself and your childs and even your wife!! ;)

Also think its a waste of money

Im watching mock gays kissing on Hollyoaks, enough to stop anyone smoking :disappointed:  :puke:
