while I would love to believe this is true and genuinely hope I am wrong in some way

if their phone doesnt work, how are they posting? has their house collapsed while they were sitting at their laptop and miraculously not taken out the phone line or the wireless router?

It is most likely fake but it can happen.
I have a few times been unable to get my text sent or make a phone call but been able to get on the web and twitter or go on facebook and post something or chat.

During a disaster time its more or less impossible to get a call through (same as new years) - Maybe 3G was still working or public wifi in the area?
