On Target Earnings, usually its sales where a large percentage is derived from commission. Usually you have to work your butt off for it though!

Or it could be "bonus" related; where each task is quoted in hours. You get paid Ã,£16k for the first 37.5/40 hours of work you do a week and then every task hour over and above that is OTE.

This is common in the garage trade I believe.

it doesnt have to be capped - OTE is what you should get if you are good at the job On target earnings - some people will get more - quite a few will get less.

I guess if it is a support role then it will be capped & based on hitting certain targets. If youre in a role where you are actually directly contributing to the companies P&L however then theyd be pretty stingy to cap it.

Plenty of them do cap it though, especially sales companies.

I was once on OTE earnings, and Ive had a job where I had a baisc and OTE.

I made my targets in each job, but had to work damn hard for them but I loved the work.

I left both jobs through my own choice and reasons that are just to long to explain.

Ive been offered a role where the basic is only paid for a few months and after that everything is performance related - having said that it is a very well paid role - though slightly risky.

I went for a job like that (didnt realise until after the second stage "presentation") but with existing debts and having to move house I couldnt risk it. Plus on they face they seemed to be on the level, but there was something that just didnt sit right with me, like it was all some enormous scam...
