Anyone into their insects?

Morning,

Anyone know what this is? Found it on my bathroom wall this morning, doesnt look too nice!

For starters its a beetle, not a bug :P Will try and ID it later though Im no entomologist...

Oh go me:

Male Oedemera nobilis - thick-legged flower beetle.

Common in Southern England, so if you are in Peterborough tis kinda cool. Maybe check the National Biodiversity Network to see if any records exist for it on there and if they do, if they are found that far up north.

For reference, " true bugs" are Hemiptera, beetles Coleoptera. The way to tell a bug is it will have a segmented proboscis/nose thing going on, like below:



Just dont get it confused with a weevil, which IS a beetle, and has a similar thing going on, except the nose isnt segmented, like below:

I will fess up that I only IDd it by googling "green beetle leg" and having a look at some of the key results >< My backup was to contact a colleague and resident entomologist at uni ;) He confirmed the ID for me.

I do hope you picked the beetle up and set it free, and didnt squish it...
