Suggests banning online anonymity networks like Tor. Needless to say his comments didn't go down well with parliamentary advisers.

Quote from: BBCA ban on online anonymity networks would be "technologically infeasible" and unwise, MPs have been told.

Parliamentary advisers said networks such as Tor could be used for criminal ends but also in the public interest.

The advice for MPs contradicted the Prime Minister David Cameron, who has said law enforcement should be handed the keys to encrypted communications.

OK, I haven't even tried to download Tor or been on any darknet but I do know they exist. The problem being they host illegal content that the government has managed to block using google's database and the ISPs, they really don't want that stuff available. OK, I agree that child porn isn't something we want available, illegal sales of drugs are another problem issue. That said where there is a demand there is going to be a source willing to supply and in the end more webs will be produced.

I think this is one the government has lost already, there is only so much that can be done. The police have already stated that huge numbers of sex offenders will not be prosecuted because of lack of resources and the government is planning cuts to the police budgets.

So what could they do? Block all the darkweb sites too? Arrest anyone with the required software?
