There is a difference. What about drivers and smokers?

Is it a right to drive?
Do smokers have a right to light up?
Government benefits are described as a right, but are they really a privilege?

Anything else you can think of to add to the list?

Well smokers have a right to light up and kill themselves if they so wish, but proven to harm others in passive smoking and they should not be allowed to basically harm others, so it is there right in that sense but not their right to harm others of course ^^

As for driving, if you want to you should but to be safe and comply with law you got to pass your test and have issuance etc, which is fine isnt it? Making sure you can drive well not just for your sake but again for the safety and security of others

Proven is it? show we some concreate evidence then.
You would breathe in thousands of more nasties walking to the pub than you would spending a night in a smoke filled boozer.

Anyway, I bet drinking has ruined more lives than a little passive smoking.

The smoking thing is getting old.

driving = priviledge

smoking = right, I guess in so much as you have the right to do what you want within the law - so obviously cant smoke in the workplace

Benifits = bit of both tbh... if someone has been contributing taxes and NI contributions all their life & then claims state pension/child benifit/disability/incapacity/or even jobseekers (for short periods of time) etc.. then it is sort of their right as theyve contributed

for others however - i.e. long term unemployed whove never worked and are just lazy it is a priveledge tbh.. and ought to be slowly reduced over time and replaced with food/clothing vouchers and compulsory training courses if they are fit and healthy and still cant get a job.

well consider the fact you can accidentally kill someone directly with a car, and that cars chuck out nasties that are harmful to health.  Your line of thought means that cars should also be banned.  

you have the right to do anything in private, in your own space and land.

however its a privilege to do anything in public around others.

well consider the fact you can accidentally kill someone directly with a car, and that cars chuck out nasties that are harmful to health.  Your line of thought means that cars should also be banned.  

No becuase smoking is not banned, it is banned from public enclosed spaces so there is a difference
