:)

Man I would have loved to but no way could take those sort of risks. Anything less than actually seeing the pings drop myself and itd be a P45 on Monday. Problem is that should anything go wrong or one of the db servers not switch off before the power is cut the risk of vital data loss is too great.

On the plus side its all overtime - and Im back in 2m to switch them back on at double time

Just use ILO or DRAC depending on your brand of servers

I have no idea why anyone would even physically visit a server or use risky scripts nowadays unless it was to change a disk.

Using both as it happens - got a few poweredges and some DL3xxs (DRAC is horrible compared to ILO btw..)

Im going in tommorrow to check everything is ok and see what the electricians have been up more than anything, Ill be using remote access to power them all on before I set off. I think theres a few older less critical servers without ILO too so best power them back on. :)

Same again this weekend. Got the bacon and the coffee ready this time (kudos Nige!)

Got ILO and DRAC working on all servers bar one (think the DRAC card is knackered - f*cking Dell...) Thats ok though Ive got one of the shifties ready to turn it on on Sunday (thank god for our 24 hour operation!) Had an awesome game of hunt the HP ILO switch this afternoon to clear the old (lost) ILO passwords...

Right - to post at 5am tommorrow again.

Surely youd shut off the db processes way before the machines are going to lose power anyway, so dataloss risks relatively small? Plus you need a minion to do all this actual work - hire egg for example :p

Well yeah - thats why Im getting up early! Power goes off sometime around 8. We wont lose any data - were pretty bulletproof on our process.

Were mostly HP - but we have a recent contract with Dell so have a few Dell servers. Thing is theyre so freaking cheap our manager cant afford not to buy them even though he loves HP. Were getting crazy discounts off list from Dell. HP are the best though by miles.

Yeh I meant the sauce lol.

Ive got to have HP on a bacon butty, though I will settle for Branston Rich & Fruity if needs be. :D
