Title: urgent
Post by: bear on August 03, 2007, 20:41:12 PM
Hi I am in Berlin and my gearbox is acting up !!!! well it got harder and harder to get it into first gear and now I have to put in reverse to get it
into first and I have no reverse !!! I can shift into 2nd with some difficulty
and 3r 4th and 5th is fine.
Anybody on the forum that is good with vw passats ? I wonder is it
the shiftlinkage or thr gearbox that is acting up ?

sounds more likely to be the linkage than anything else to me

edit: or maybe clutch not fully disengaging

The clutch is fine (I thought that it was the clutch at first when the 1st gear started to be hard get, it went to 3rd all the time)

I really hope it is the linkage as I might be able to fix it myself out on the
hotel parking lot.

The shops are closed as it is weekend :( We  were planning to go to going to Prauge tomorrow and if it is the linkage I might dare continue
to drive even if it is a bitch not having reverse and maybe find a shop come monday.

You may be able to bodge it up with a tiewrap or similar if its a linkage, or a small nut and bolt.

sounds like the linkage to me...

or maybe an engine/gearbox mounting..... (in that the position of the gearbox relative to the gearstick might have changed)

mmm, soemtimes you do, soemtimes you dont !

if the gearstick moves more then normal when youre pulling away, then its a engine or gearbox mounting.... if not then theyre probably ok :)

with language though older people know some german and younger some english but mostly poorly so I am pointing and gesticulating much :)

Thanx :) CZ was great to bad we had spend much of our money to find places to sleep in expensive germany (prices like in sweden) CZ most things about the third of the price
well not hardware like axes, chainsaws etc. which must be a bitch for people living there.
