OK nae that big brother - more the car tracking planned by our big brother state. Some people say its data harvesting and wont affect the introduction of "road charging" , Im not sure - and gonna get people to sign it as when Big Brother government arrives (which it will if we allow it), then at least i signed as an objector!

As for the petition, despite the nasties it offers it will also tend to prevent vehicle theft and speeding. Those who go out on the roads would have rather more regard for the speed limit if there was someone permanently looking over their shoulder.

I may not agree with road charging but Im not signing. Why should the majority put up with a minority who insist on offending? It might also help with solving other crimes.

So if you accidentally slip 2Mph of the Speed limit you are happy to get 3 points and fine, served automatically and without appeal?  Personally i think the ploice need to be given better funding, without adding more speed cameras.  In my town there is 1 in a sensible place.  Its right next to a school, that to me makes sense.  However the majority of the others are located in places where speed isnt a problem.  I.E. the bypass where the limit drops to 40 going round a gentle bend, then knocks back up to 70 afterwards.  This corner is fine at 70, and there was maybe one accident every couple of months, but now you see tyre marks on the road, bits of fence missing, and cars in the bushes where they have stamped on the breaks and been unable to correct themselves in time.

You swallowed the line the government have put out, great.  The objections have very little to do with speeding.  They are to do with having your location tracked 24/7.  My location is _nothing_ at all to do with the government unless im doing something wrong.  Until ive done something that justifies tracking my location all the time then they shouldnt be wanting to know.  Im not a peadophile, im not a convicted criminal nor do I have a criminal record, so WHY should they be able to track me?

If im the only person who drives my car, then its tracking ME, not my car.  My movement, and by extension the movement on my property isnt anything to do with the government.  If someone is paying for my car then THEY can put a tracker on it if they want, if im paying then its my business where it goes.  
If i wanted to check with the police then i would do, thought th fact my security clearance came through a coupleof weeks back and it was absolutely perfect would suggest that im fine where I am.

Bit of both really - whilst I see the point re offenders - then who decides what the offence is? If it was really anyone in authorities intention to use cameras as a preventative measure then they would be located where they would act as such, rather than the fuund generators they often are !

Having said that - here in aberdeenshire they arent used as fund generators - but could do with better location control!

Ive got the opposite point of view to serious tbh... I agree with road charging but I reckon a system like this is far too invasive.

Congestion charging for inner city areas is fine, tolls for some motorways are also OK IMO - but tracking cars - what a big super expensive pointless pile of wank that would be.

And of course as with all govt IT projects it will be carried out by a competent firm, delivered on time, within budget and will work properly without any major flaws or blatant loop holes that various people will exploit.

All this fear about tracking.

Youve put your mobile phone number down on forms yes... and I could probably safely say that some of those forms are from the government.

They have the ability to track you anyway everytime your phone is on, and with the new carbon nanotube based clocks (instead of rubidium) they are considering deployment in mobile phone base stations they can track you more closely than ever before. That isnt just when your in a car either, but also on foot.

So... tracking... moot point, not an issue as if people were really bothered about it then theyd cry bloody murder over the cellphone network.

Im for it. Motor vehicles cause more damage to the roads than any other vehicle, they arent even allowed on the roads by default, they have to be "licenced" to be there, they cause more CO2 emissions than any other road users, and therefore contribute the most to the environmental issues.

The more that is done to discourage car use over short journeys, the better. Perhaps if people start having to pay for trips as they take them, theyll be more likely to take little timmy on the 15 minute walk to school, instead of taking the car.

How the project is undertaken, that isnt really our place to speculate as it could go off without a hitch. To track cars is not an issue, I would think more of a problem is the legislation, how are they going to force current car owners to get tracking devices fitted to their cars?

It also means, instead of sitting in lay-bys trying to catch speeders, police will be actively investigating crimes that are more serious than doris doing 48 in a 40 zone.

As M3ta7h3ad says, if you have a mobile phone then you can be tracked constantly when its on. You are always going to be carrying it so its far better than tracking your car, get rid of that first.

The police could only track you in your car so either use public transport or walk. Of course if you really are that paranoid you will have to protect yourself from being videoed too, wear a burka - all the time.

Dont forget the tinfoil liner to stop them peeking inside your brain too
