Big ass plastic you connect a bit like lego/meccano on a basic level for the little ones.

Sticklebricks or something wasn't it? I only remember the red ones.

They are pretty solid and last years. Only the plastic connectors get messed up and fall apart from lots of reconnections and chewing by kids. New versions of this stuff is super expensive for what it is.
