Obviously they get tangled up if you put them in a draw, or lost if you don't store them somewhere. So how about putting up a cheap towel rail and hanging them over that?

Actually this works better than I initially thought it would, hanging cables don't get tangled and you can identify the one you want easier

OK, it's simple and maybe even obvious, but how many people didn't think of it? 

i coil my cables up & tie off with cable tie. easy to find
