Originally I was going for a 8600, then a lower end 8800 card, then had a bit more money and thought i may as well get the GTX whilst I could.  So given the GTX says it requires 500w min. ... will the psu run this ok or is it going to choke on it?

Id rather not spend more as i spent too much already but id rather be safer than sorry, I REALLY dont want to have to buy any of that lot again

nice setup, bigger PSU.  In fact if you are buying a really high-end rig like that get the biggest PSU you can afford.  I would say that for breathing room you would be best off with a 750w or more.

Liam

Very nice setup, but yeah you will probs need something at least a 700W PSU, in my setup iv got a 800W Tagan PSU and runs very smoothly.

Stick with the onboard sound unless Creative have suddenly made a good card and driver for Vista, which I dont think they have.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Sweenster

yeah, i wouldnt touch creative for a while, if not ever again, after the shoddy drivers for xp and vista.

it took 2 years after i bought my last creative soundcard for them to make a stable xp driver, and that was a beta.

apparently their current drivers are useless, dont have dolby digital/dts support, unstable ie bluescreen.

there is alot of groups calling for nobody to buy creative till they actually improve.. which they wont.

Pete

Innit. Put the money towards a 24" screen - 22" gets a bit cramped after a while.

You probably wouldnt notice the difference between onboard and an X-fi unless youve got amazing ears and hifi equipment.

zpyder

I made the mistake of getting an X-Fi as vista had issues with the onboard sound (crackling when moving the mouse heh)

I built this computer probably around about 14-15 months ago, and thats how long its taken for them to get round to bringing out a driver for 64 bit vista that uses their console thing instead of some crummy menu. And even then, their console thing is a bit bloaty.

Trust me with the state of the Creative Vista driver he will :P Gone back to XP64 and it sounds so much better plus its alot faster in games :)

Im still using RealTek Onboard sound, works well enough for me.  Was going to get something else, but XP64 support for some of the stuff is a big vague, and manufacturers arent willing to play ball on telling me.

Milktray, bit off topic, if you are going to hang around, and if you want, and dont have any webspace of your own you could borrow this...

Im getting conflicting advice on the psu now (not from you guys that is), ive been told if I dont use the absolute highest graphics settings in my gaming (which I never do) then the 600w should be ok.  Games will all be mmos if that makes any difference?

For getting slaughtered in shooters I use the consoles (same nick) so if youve killed the same guy multiple times in a very short space you may have been in a game with me    despite the not so constructive comments from players after the games I quite enjoy COD4 on the 360, Warhawk on the PS3 is fun even though I cant fly the hawks  :drama:

@Serious
Thanks for the picture link, I finally figured it out and uploaded it into my profile ... took me about 5 minutes to work it out though, havent had my coffee yet, the coffee must flow !!

I use a 530watt PSU than that to play everything, including Crysis. You dont need the biggest, meanest most costly rig to play games.

An E2180 with a decent graphics card will practically anything if you turn the settings down a notch or two. A 3ghz Wolfdale will handle anything but Crysis on high settings.

The only time you really need a big PSU is if you are running a pair of top of the range graphics cards in SLI mode, three or four graphics CPUs and a 1 KWatt heater is the standard.

Glad you like the avatar, I used it for a while but keep going back to this one. I have several cat avatars that I occasionally use on my site, including my Christmas one.

The parts listed which I have are to last me for awhile (hopefully) so getting a beefy psu might not be a bad idea so as to avoid upgrding that whenever stuff gets added/updated (hopefully warhammer online wont require updating anything).  The Razer keyboard/mouse and mat are lovely (couldnt wait to use em), should go very well with the CMS stacker and its blue LED fans, the mats HUGE, larger than I thought even after reading reviews.  Its almost as big as my 22" WS  :nana:

The mouse seems to have an odd problem though, if its left plugged into the USB port and you boot or reboot the computer it doesnt even get to halfway booted before locking up, if you boot without the mouse plugged in .. it boots just fine, plug the mouse in after and it doesnt cause any problem.

Loaded new drivers and still does it, using Vista Premium on this (mutters under breath) pc, its a cheapo job from pcworld though with a massive 250w psu

Just need to get the new psu and then get the pc built and I can finally play games as they  should be played  :w00t:  well, seen anyway, very much doubt its going to improve my playing skills

If I do go for a 1000w psu which might be a good one to go for?  Id rather not splas out to much cash so thought of the http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=608156 but that has no reviews to go by, the other coihe i was thinking of was the coolermaster 1000w psu (£138 i think) id provide a link but im having trouble connecting to the Tekheads site.

More power than I need but it may come in handy as mmos seem to require more and more (specwise) nowadays and warhammer online (sept rel. date supposedly) hasnt given specs out yet which is a pain in the butt when it comes to deciding what to get.  I should have the CE Edtion arriving in may so have a few weeks to get psu and get it all put together .. and if it throws a BSOD at me im gonna throw a fit  :gag:
