A friend has asked me to find them a wireless router for use with their Virgin Media connection. Now, Ive never looked at routers for cable before, so is there a difference from ADSL routers and does anyone have any recommendations?

The difference is one has an ADSL line plugged in, the other has a cable line. You might want to use whatever cable modem you get with a bog standard wireless access point to save cash.

Linksys WRT-54G series, pick one, they are all pretty decent for home users.

because that helps him how? Nexus I swear youre more special than you say.

A cable router typically just has a "WAN" port labelled that allows you to plug an ethernet cable from your current existing cable modem, into the router, itll route traffic via that port.

Very rarely do you actually find a router with an embedded cable modem on it.

I use a belkin one and its great.

More special then I say? And that makes sense how? LOL
It is very simple, it is now by law quicker in the UK to change ISP and in terms of cable he can switch still also and with all the crap Virgin have right now as well as planned for the near future its a bad service to be on and so suggesting to not be with them if possible is a good suggestion as it will be better for him in the long run.

I too agree, I have been on virgin/telewest for years and dont think I have had any downtime.

My connection speed has also always been as expected and not less than the advertised rate, unlike many DSL providers.

Very happy with my service.
