Megapixels = MegaHurtz.

Same issue.

More of either means naff all.

I can buy a 10Megapixel camera from lidls for Ã,£30 but it will produce photos similar in quality to a web cam.

megapix only determines how far you can blow up without pixelation. overall image quality is more lens dependant.

Yes but at the difference between 2mp and 3mp you can resize downwards and maintain an overall level of quality through resampling. If your max resolution is also the size you want your native picture resolution then you are a bit buggered if the camera is crap at it and the shots are grainy, as you cant resize downwards.

Quote from: SeriousA proper camera should have 5 megapixels and a 3x zoom in a compact which will enable you to have a bit more creativity and print to A4. If you are only going to be printing 6x4" snaps off then the sony K800i will be adequate.

[edit]Its also got an mp3 function IIRC so no need to carry an Ipod.[/edit]
yeah, but for most people taking holiday shapshots they dont need over 2Px whatever way you look at it.  Plus my dinky 3.1Mpx S5000 beats the hell out of some of the newer 5Px compact cameras purely because the lens is better (or i assume thats the reason).

thats precisely the reason, probably has a better compression routine too ;)

but if the image was taken through a cheap and rubbish plastic lens you can do as much post processing to it as you like, youll still have a blurry unsharp image. **** in, **** out.

Ive taken images from a Nikon 2MP camera and blown them up to 10x8 with very good quality, and Ive also seen images from 4 and 5 mp cheapo cameras which I wouldnt print at wallet size.
