Now, this is a bit random as I do not have any details as such so here goes.

A friend of mine would like to share his wireless connection with a neighbour.  Now, the ADSL is working fine in the house and my friend has a wifi card in his lappy and is able to connect providing he is within range of the house.  He went out and bought a Cisco extender which he just plugs in to a plug socket which theoretically should work (having read all the instructions).  The Extender sees the wireless connection.  However, the lappy is unable to obtain an IP address and says the connection is limited or no connectivity.  A friend at work has said that you need to set a setting on the router in the house to allow access points?

I have a feeling that this person would have thrown away documentation which came with the router.  I also until this evening do not know who it is made by.  Are the URLs for setting up routers generic to all, or do different manufacturers use a different URL??

Am I going down the right route or would you think there is something else which I should be checking.

To summarise, the wireless connection to the lappy works fine up to his front door, although this is not using the extender.  The extender does see the connection, although the lappy just states that it has limited or no connectivity

Thanks for any help

they do use different urls

you may need docs from both the extender and routerr to get it setup properly. the lappy not getting the dhcp from the router?

Got this sorted thanks.  The extender looks like it was incompatible with the Rangemax router.  I plugged in an additional Netgear wireless access point and voila ... wireless internet.  Works pretty good given there is about a 100ft gap between the house and the flat.

Wifi, especially non-ratified extended features are notoriously manufacturer depandant.
