I cant stop listening to Neko Cases kick-ass cover of the Shangri-Las "Train From Kansas City". Its Girl pop-tastic. Join my disease*.

Ive been totally obsessed by Neko for the last week, had her entire catalog in constant rotation.

Its from this live album, btw, one of the best live discs ever, up there with "Live at Leeds" or "Live at Budokan", imho.

i am trying to pin down the influences and her style,

however i am completly unexcited by this.
it is good but not for me :)

Its 60s girl pop is what it is. I love such stuff, like the lush Phil Spector produced Ronettes, the Supremes, and this cover of a Shangri-Las tune.

Such 60s pop usually had fluffy lyrics, but just incredible production. Thats why I love Nekos driving live, almost rockabilly flavored version of said fluffy songs.

And shes cute.

DEViANCE

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Nice post. Care to explain? Dont give a crap if you like it, but from a musical standpoint, its a well performed rocker with a nice live verby sound. Perhaps you need to go back to yer Ashlee Simpson or somfin.

kinkybiatch

it just is i cant stand it and i hate ashlee simpson

i like death metal and gothic bands

to name a few

Maelstrom,  Phanatos, Screaming Banshee Aircrew, Skull Baby. (There the gothic bands just incase you didnt know)

Deeds of flesh, Mortuary, Grotesque, Nuclear Death, Rotting Christ, Impaled Nazarene.

Enjoy that corner, as youve successfully painted yourself into it. Youll grow out of it, I promise. The whole "goth lifestyle" was old even in 85, though some decent pop tunes came out of the movement. Music be music. As a great band leader of the 40s once replied to a question about his musical tastes, "do it swing?"

Ive been into extreme metal since my early teens, and now getting towards my mid-20s Im showing no signs of growing out of it. My music tastes have expanded and evolved but I still love metal as much as I ever did, if not moreso now Im able to access and understand a much wider variety of sub-genres.

Indeed @ Chris, and I started out with raiding a mates collection of swedish rock/metal catalogues, the kind printed on A5 sheets of paper, stapled together and posted to you when you send off a SAE to some strange address.

I bought a bunch of albums and got hooked.

Think what max hooked onto was the fact that Kinkybiatch painted herself as a pretty little goth princess. "you dont believe me so ill prove how hardcore I am because it means everything to me", and yes... it is highly likely that she will grow out of it.

Liking death metal or similar is no excuse for poor etiquette, or bad language.

Shes given no reason why to dislike the persons singing, other than "its bullsh*t" and that "im a goth". Hell I dont like the damn song, but I can respect a decent singer of any genre.

Theres appreciating music, theres disliking music, then theres being plain rude.

Youll grow out of it, Chris. :P No slight against Metal, but I have a hard time with most of it and various punk sects that seem obsessed with labeling themselves into narrower and narrower sub-genres. Its like observing some sort of identity crisis. I dont care if youre Hardcore-Emo-Metal-Retro-Transexual-Overbitten-Incontinent-Groove-Core, just play some f*cking music and shut up.

Metal will never grow old, the stereotyping does however. :) as you say...shell grow out of it.

Just to add... Wearing white makeup and black eyeliner should be restricted to Adam Ant, and KISS & their thousands of tribute bands.

It looks crap to be honest. Be it on a bloke or a girl. Goth or not.
