...i may even pick up some recommendations on the way...

Favourite all time cinematic shot/scene or moment...

mine?

Charlie Sheen in Platoon, as he leaves the jungle in nam with his monologue over the top, brilliant.

or

the end scene from Midnight Express.

or

the end scene from The Shawshank Redemption.

People will mock me lol but mine is in Armagedon when Bruce Willis blows himself up I always have a tear in my eye at that point.

hard question! there are so many!
possibly

where Sarah Connah sees Kyle in the mad house and follows him outside, followed by the whole childrens park/nuke scene, that scene is stunning.

The Ark of the Covenant being warehoused in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the camera zooms slowly wide and you can see how it just gets lost in that huge space. All that work for naught.

great choice! seeing that minigun also reminds me where arnie is shooting at the cops from cyberdyne with the minigun, another top scene.

that scene in wild things where neve campbell and denise richards....  :whoops:

actually platoon is a good one - though personally I reckon the best scene in that film is the part where  Sgt. Elias (Willem Dafoe) comes out of the jungle & throws his hands in the air while being shot repeatedly by the vietcong as the rest of the platoon flies off - soundtrack with adagio for strings adds to it well.

personal fave - though not a great landscape shot or anything - is the scene in trading places where dan akyroyd and eddie murphy are shorting frozen orange juice futures on the NYBOT floor - all the buzz of the traders around them buying like crazy & they are calmly building up a huge short position prior to the crop report - the the report comes out & chaos breaks out as everyone else tries to go short

One of the scenes in Donnie Darko, where Donnie discusses smurf reproduction:
QuoteSean Smith: Beer and pussy. Thats all I need.
Ronald Fisher: We gotta find ourselves a Smurfette.
Sean Smith: Smurfette?
Ronald Fisher: Yeah, not some tight-ass Middlesex chick, right? Like this cute little blonde that will get down and dirty with the guys. Like Smurfette does.
Donnie: Smurfette doesnt f**k.
Ronald Fisher: Thats bulls**t. Smurfette f**ks all the other Smurfs. Why do you think Papa Smurf made her? Because all the other Smurfs were getting too horny.
Sean Smith: No, no, no, not Vanity. I heard he was a homosexual.
Ronald Fisher: Okay, then, you know what? She f**ks them and Vanity watches. Okay?
Sean Smith: What about Papa Smurf? I mean, he must get in on all the action.
Ronald Fisher: Yeah, what he does, he films the gang-bang, and he beats off to the tape.
Donnie: [shouts] First of all, Papa Smurf didnt create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamels evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario, it just couldnt happen. Smurfs are asexual. They dont even have... reproductive organs under those little, white pants. Its just so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. You know, whats the point of living... if you dont have a dick?
Sean Smith: [pause] Dammit, Donnie. Why you gotta get all smart on us?
:D

80s films have all the classic scenes, its too hard for me to pick one off the top of my head though.

For now Im going to go with the scene from Aliens, where they are tracking them coming closer until they are in beeping on the scanner as being in the room, then the realisation dawns on them that they are crawling through the celing ducting...

Marvellous cinema the whole way through actually.

Hmm, very hard

- A hell of a lot from blade runner tbh, lots of good ones there.
- Full metal jacket, two there: "please kill me, from the girl" and the loo scene of course
- Saving private ryan - The most amazing start to a movie I have ever scene
- Predator Shooting is a good one, the wide angle shot is really sweet
- Alien 1 -  The chest burster scene is great, the fact that they told none of the actors bar the one whos chest was about to explode to get a great reaction is something you dont see these days.

The great escape, as he realises hes trapped in the field on the motorbike.

Great twist considering that with most films the main character lives to tell the tale.

Close Second... when the orcs arrive to attack Helms Deep in Lord of the Rings, the two towers.

The scenes where Red travels to find the box that Andy Dufresne leaves for him and the meeting at the end of Shawshank, man alive, that gets me everytime.

Another one is, the "I took a souvenir.... her pretty head" from Se7en. Chilling.

Cheers

What about the shootout in TGTB&TU, in fact the whole final 30 minutes is masterful.

I also really llike the scene in Les Mis (Neeson version) when Javert comes to the house with the dying fontine after he finds out that Neeson is Val Jean and as hes being arrested all he cares about is fontine dying and her repenting - then as shes dead he rages at Javert and escapes. Fantastic acting from both men there. I think Rush should have won an oscar for that film (far superior to his performance in Shine).

Also another classic has to be the whole I know what youre thinking... from DH.
