Which is best Single 7900GT (with the option to pair up later) or buy a pair of 7600GTs?

Purely for games use.

Shakey

Not all games can use SLI, so depending on which ones you play, the single card may be better. Performance-wise I dont know how the two setups would compare.

On the other hand, with SLI, NVidia are developing software that would allow one card to act as a PPU (physics processing unit), meaning you wont have to but a seperate card.

Porch Monkey

TBH theres very few games that need SLi that cant use it these days, and as SLi runs under open GL you dont need direct support.

What resolution are you going to be running for your games? That makes more of a difference, if your screen refreshes at 80 Hz then being able to run Ultimate Kill Kill Death 3000 at 150 fps wont mean jack.

Serious

present screen is 1600*1200 but something went dodgy today, might be the graphics driver as the windoze screen has gone to pot.

Looking into getting one of the Dell 30" monsters early next year if they have a special offer on so you lot could end up slobbering.

[edit]Got the latest drivers and it seems to be working properly now :)[/edit]
