I can HIGHLY recommend this seller, I bought a very high end dell laptop from them a few months ago. and saved over Ã,£500 on the dell price.

Would be nice to know what sort of things you will be doing on it, that can make a complete difference in what is the best laptop for you. A 17" screen could be a hinderance if you were after carrying it around a lot or a bonus if you are going to use it as a desk top replacement with only movement around the house. If you are going to be using it away from mains power then battery life may be all important. It also isnt worth going for a hefty processing capability if all you are going to be doing is word processing and web browsing, you might as well save some dosh, although if you are going to do something like heavy video manipulation or scientific stuff then you need every megahertz you can afford.

Ive got one of the reasonably high-end business laptops from Dell and Im really impressed with it, nice screen, excellent battery life, widescreen format means the keyboard is very useable on a day to day basis.

It aint gonna set any world records on game performance I shouldnt imagine, but as a fairly mobile workhorse I couldnt really ask for more.

Bluetoothing syncing my calendar etc to my phone is bloody handy as well, no carrying half the amazon around in a diary for me thanks!

not using it much, or at all?

This is the Key.  For Ã,£1000 you might be better off with a lightweight Travelmate, and a mid-range desktop with a Laser Printer or similar attatched.

ok, was just a thought.  Seems to be a waste of money/Power to get a monster lappy when you dont really need the horsepower.

The point is you pretty much have a choice between games-type performance  and mobility, so for Ã,£1000 for a non-games box, you should be able to get a nice light desktop workhorse Id imagine.

soul, I think what everyone is trying to say is, why spend Ã,£1000 on a laptop when a cheaper one will do everything you want it to just as well ?

better to get a cheaper one and save/spend the rest on something else

plus, it means it doesent sting so much when its out of date in 6 months... (which it will be)

could always get a Ã,£500 one that will do everything you want, then upgrad3 in 6 months when the now Ã,£1000 one will only be Ã,£500
