Which would be better?

I want to stick with Canon, as I have lenses for my EOS Rebel.

addictweb

Isnt the 350D (UK) the same as the Rebel (US)?

Id say the 1000D just because its a much newer model.

whats a film SLR? the 350D 1000D and rebel XT are all DSLRs

the 350D is getting on a bit now, only 8.5mp iirc i had one and it took a very good photo, better than the 450D i had IMO

Eggtastico

The 300 was a film wasnt it?

and I dont mean

 :disappointed:

Is an EOS Rebel not different from an EOS Digital Rebel (insert random letters here)?

350D might be slightly better in build quality but then again the fact that any you pick up will be getting on a bit will make that point moot. Are second hand 450/500Ds out of the question?

Its an EOS 3000V (35mm film SLR)

I thought the Rebels had worse build quality/components than not rebels?

zpyder

I thought they were just rebranded for the different markets.

Sam

Yeah I think they are the same, just different naming schemes (which have now been stopped - the 50d / 60d is called that in both countries).

Serious

I would try to go for something a bit more modern than the 350D. 450D would be a better option and probably cost not much more.

1000 is a better option than the 350 by a long way.

about twice the price 2nd hand

Dave

If you can, then get a 2nd hand 40D.

Otherwise the 1000D is a bit more modern.

Ive got a Rebel XTi (400D) - though if I were to buy a camera today within the budget I gave myself 3 years ago then Id prob go for a second hand 40D.

I got my 400d 3 years ago, we didnt have much choice back then ie go for a 2nd hand pro dslr or get a new entry level one.
Im desperate to upgrade to one with liveview.

zpyder

For a first dSLR Id go new entry level. Not entirely sure why. Maybe because you get more bang for the buck in terms of functions, quality may not be as top notch as a pro body, but the difference wouldnt be enough to make it an issue. I love my 40D but cant help but feel that a more modern live view mode might have been better, and the capability to shoot HD video would have been cool, though rarely used.
