Just ordered a D90, bet its a pile of balls just like the 450D I got her for xmas.

I spoke to a shop yesterday who said that the pound to dollar/euro rate was causing large price rises in early January for Nikon and Tokina (so presumably others), so nows the time it seems.

Kit lenses on Nikon are better than Canon. Reviews say that its photo quality is roughly on par with a 40D but has better video capability and control layout.

I have a load of nikkor lenses from my F4 and F4s so am hoping to use those.

Its supposed to sit somewhere between a D40 and a D50 from what I can gather.

I thought it was the only DSLR to do video?

Serious

Resolution wise its higher than the 40 but lower than the 50 but there are quite a few other things that contribute to producing a final image. Sometimes a very high number of pixels can cause issues with the final image.

Some Canons have a video out socket, including a hdmi one on the D50, so you can record video using one onto a computer via the live view function. Ive never actually bothered to check if any of them have an integral recording function tho. Seems not :/

Video is rather a problematic function to provide on a DSLR as the mirror would have to be held out of the way whilst videoing anything, so you would be using live view anyway.

D90 has a maximum of 5 mins of 720p@ 24 frames/sec with mono sound so not that good anyway. You would be better off with a proper 1080 video camera if you wanted to do that properly.

I just want to be able to use my F4/s lenses

Serious

You did ask before you bought? The D90 is backward compatible with a wide range of nikkor lenses but not all.

Mark

F-mount has been around since 1959, so Im fairly sure they will work :)

Serious

Almost all of them should but there might be feature support issues with some.

Mongoose

Im not completely up on the Nikon F mount compatibility, but if I recall correctly cameras below the D200 (and presumably D300) cant meter with non-electronic lenses.

If youve got electric contacts on the lenses, you are probably golden, if not you might be out of luck.

Well, it arrived - and all my old lenses work the best

Not sold on it yet though.

Glad to hear they work, hope you get on well with it once you get used to it.
