Mongoose

I just got back from a weeks holiday in South Wales. I reckon it must be a good year for Dragon flys, they were everywhere! anyway I think they look pretty cool and they seemed to want to be photographed, so here are a couple of the best shots I got.

This guy was the first one I saw, and the only green one. He just sat there on his leaf, happy as anything while Dad and I took loads of frames.

Info:
Camera: Pentax *ist DL2
Lens: Pentax SMC-M 200mm F4 and Tokina RMC Doubler
Focal Length: 400mm
Aperture: F4 (F8 with the doubler)
Shutter Speed: 1/200th
ISO: 800

Having almost never seen one sit still long enough for me to take a photo before, there then seemed to be Dragon flys everywhere the following day, all clamoring to have their photos taken, including this guy with rather cool red flecks on the ends of his wings

Info:
Camera: Pentax *ist DL2
Lens: Carl Zeiss Jenazoom Super 75-300 F4.5-5.6
Focal length: 300mm
Aperture: F5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/400th
ISO: 400

hope you like them!

rofl, glad Im not the only one  :whoops:  Did you see the stinger on the end of the one in the first pic ?? Sod that ;)

Great photos though :)

Binary Shadow

wasnt aware they could sting lol wont be getting close to any ever again now lol

DEViANCE

very nice photos!

I think a dragon flys sting can be very nasty.

Mongoose

lol I didnt know they could either, suddenly happier that I was using a lens with a minimum focus distance of 1.5m or I might have been tempted to get closer!

Thanks for the kind comments

edit: Wikipedia says they rarely bite or sting humans unless grabbed, so all is well with the world and close uo photography of these highly funky insects can continue without fear
