Nos

Not really.

This product is Canon Refurbished "A CLASS" to BRAND NEW Condition, in factory sealed box, unopened, everything is keeping in the original manufactory status. This Kit is in PERFECT BRAND NEW CONDITION.

    * Warranty Length: This product comes with 90 Days Canon warranty.

£400 for a refurb is a bit much, especially as Canon wont give you the cashback as its not a new model.

Also the lens is PANTS!!!

You are better off buying a new camera body and separate lens IMO

Eggtastico

good spot about the 90 day warranty. No good for me..

Also, how do I know a good lens from another?

For Canons own>

For others have a look around, if you spot one you fancy google or yahoo for it + review.

Only issue is they suggest a 28mm for a portrait lens, this would be good for a group portrait but a 50mm would be better for a single person, it lets you back off and give them room. Less stress. Also remember you have to multiply the focal length by 1.6 to give the real effect as the sensor is smaller than a 35mm frame. 50mm would equate to an 80mm

Mongoose

in terms of quality of the standard 18-55 lens which comes with the camera, according to my research before buying mine the order goes

Pentax > Nikon > Canon

the Pentax and Nikon lenses are pretty close and could be called either way deppending on your prefferences for colour rendition, flare resistance and sharpness. Both spank the Canon lens silly. Not quite sure where Olympus fit in, but their lenses in general have a good rep, I just dislike the 2x multiplier and the small viewfinder image it brings.

Only way to get decent glass out of Canon is to give them mucho mullah for their L series lenses. Those are v nice, but youd better be rich.

None of the kit zooms are ground breaking, but the Canon one is the worst of the lot.

BTW Pentax K10D with kit zoom is now under £500. In body Shake Reduction, all weather sealing and a decent viewfinder, now THAT is good value in a camera.

Serious focal length comments are right on the money. I use a 35mm for groups (largely because I dont have a 28), 50mm for singletons and 90mm for head+shoulders.

Ive seen just as many go Nikon>Pentax>Canon

Really for the body there is very little to choose between the Nikon and Canon 10MP cameras. Ive been thinking of getting a Canon 400D body myself but only because my brother already has a 350D with lenses.

Issue with the K10D is its basically the same as the Samsung GX10 - great if you are going to shoot in Raw format and work on the images but a bit lame otherwise. It also pushes the price up so it would be against the Nikon D80.

Eggtastico

what about them other deals Ive posted?
I dont mind ordering from abroad. I have a relative in Hong Kong, so may get  it purchased by him & for him to ship it over + its a 2year warranty

Serious

Depends on the warranty, then you have the problem of posting it back if it goes wrong. You might find one almost as cheap in the UK if you are lucky.

Well my cousin gets things posted to him all the time, so it wont be much of a problem.
