I like no.6 with the train tracks.

Theres something about your photos, from the lighting and shadows to the perspective and pseudo-grainyness of them.

I know you say you dont do much processing on em, but just what do you do from when you take the photo to uploading it? Im interested in photography but stuff like this forever escapes me. I tend to blame it on using cheap and kit lenses, but thats just making excuses I fear!

Someone has a polariser I thinks :) and a gradient filter :D

Very nice.  My only slight criticism might be that it feels like the sky is somehow dominating some of the pics (first one for example).  Its as if its slightly too high a dynamic range and washing out the rest of the pic.  It looks artifically enhanced somehow.

This picture however is pay for good.  Seriously, thats worthy of a frame and a place on a wall.

Which is why Metal queried about filters, the two he mentioned are the ones to do that.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

SteveF - I have recently bought a 10-20 Sigma wide angle lens.  I think because most of these were taken using it means you see a cluster of photos with lots of sky.  I have thought that myself, will try and balance out a little.  I think its a case of how capable the lens is, so have pushed it to its limit and perhaps a little too much ;-)  Thanks for your kind comment.

M3ta7h3ad - Indeed Circ Pol and Grad

bear - beach shots were shot at Weston Super Mare (chav seaside town, but gorgeous at 7am in the morning), harbour shots taken in Bristol by Waterfront, big bridge shots Avonmouth, Cotswoldy bridge shot (cannot remember name of village, but between Bristol and Bath)

zpyder - seriously its not about what lens you use, its all about how you use it.  For the shots with really fun angles etc, you do need a wide angle lens as the standard kit lens will not cut it, although some of my own personal faves have been taken with the standard 18-55 kit lens that came with my D40.

I do post process to a certain degree - the biggest thing for me though is that I have recently made a switch from shooting in jpeg to shooting in RAW.  This allows me to use the bridge RAW editor that comes with CS3.  I open the RAW image and have this overwhelming control over the shot.  What I have generally been doing is increasing the black, tweaking the exposure to give it a bit more punch, and also increasing the vibrance (this brings out the colour more).  If you push it too much they can look a bit HDR which I am not a great fan of.  Only other adjustment I would do is draw a very slight S shape in curves.  This just darkens the darks and lightens the lights.   Thats it.    Although on a couple I do enhance the skies just a tiny bit.  Its near impossible to get those deep deep blue skies with just filters - I may just add an adjustment layer set to monochrome and gradient it down to the horizon.  This is only a slight enhancement of what is there already.

zpyder (or anyone else) - if you ever want a hand processing your photos, I am always happy to assist.  Just give me a shout.   :-D

Cheers Mongoose!  If you do decide to buy one I would recommend you buy from below linkage

Its £250 (think its £350 in Jessops) and postage I chose to go DHL for an extra £3.  £252.99 total price delivered from Hong Kong, they reimburse in the instance you ever did get hit with duty, although it was wrapped up in gift paper like a present (with ribbon, he he!!)  Took 3 days to be delivered.  Amazing service!

good linkage, they are generally a bit light on the non-Canikon mounts but that lens they do have in Pentax flavour.

My favourite UK dealer is SRS Microsystems in Watford, who currently have this lens for £289.

Must.....Resist......

Mongoose, Bristol Cameras are showing the Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens for £285, at that price I may be tempted myself.

Mrt, awesome photos as always, interesting to see a different take on the old flour mills at avonmouth, I too have photographed them but used HDR and alsso before they blighted the landscape with wind turbines!  Mine can be found on my flickr page if your interested.....
