I have a picture I took for a couple of friends today but stupidly I didnt whack the flash on to cancel out the backlight.

I have played with adjusting the brightness and I think I can do what I need to by bringing the level up by around 30%. My problem is that I cannot work out how to select my two friends and get them into their own layer (using PSP).

I will attach the picture if needed but Id prefer to be given some pointers...

I have tried "magic wanding" on RGB, Hue and Brightness with varying tollerance levels but they all select a load of stuff.

I have tried free handing the selection but I cannot get it accurate enough :/

brummie

give us a look then. hard to say without really seeing the problem. Its not gay porn is it????

Mardoni

hahaha, no...I know youd like that but its not :p

Ok, here it is :o

Click on it for the Bigger Picture ;)

I dont think its that bad. Maybe set up the dodge brush to about 30% opacity and colour over them?

Serious

Use a lassoo tool and then brighten the area selected

Ill see what I can do.

Mardoni

Ahh now thats clever, howd you do that ?

lol.

I am such a nub when it comes to this sort of thing; I write the tools, I dont use them :p

I tried that but I cannot get it accurate enough. I end up brightening a little bit of a border around them which becomes blindingly apparent when you view the whole image :/

brummie

Its the dodge/burn tool.

Lassooing is too inaccurate so i used that to just paint over the area i needed lightened

Ill give it a go in a bit using the gimp and the magic scissors. :D

Serious

Not too bad but maxi will probably outdo me, pic is clicky ;)

Mardoni

oh grrr, thats not bad either :p

Is it just me or in all of these pictures, original included, do the couple look *fake* ?

maximusotter

yeah.

I fooled around with it, and it always looked horrid because of the huge contrast changes in the background, I mean, you could lower the level range and grey out the sky and make them pop, but it looked completely fake-aroo.

So I found me a pyramid...

Thats an issue of distance from the background, makes them stick out a lot.

TBH I have found it rather difficult to sort out her face properly, needs a red reduction to balance it :/

Still I think the above is good enough for a snap and if yours are of a similar quality they should be happy with the result ;)

Forgot to say I did it in PSP 9, selected the lasso tool then set the feathering to a suitable level before I grabbed the faces. ITs mainly the Adjust/Photo Fix/Fill Flash option but its best to play around with the options and use undo if you dont like the result.

Left to its own automatic repair option it made a right royal *up of it.

I personly went for a faux DOF efect I felt it was the sharp back drop that was causing the distraction
