Title: Photo competition: Transport
Post by: XEntity on July 13, 2010, 22:23:25 PM
Brief: "Transport" in the widest possible sense of the word, I dont want to limit creativity as I think the experimental topic worked very well and is a tough subject to beat!

So any form of transport is fine from Shoes to space shuttles, doesnt have to be the whole item can be part of it from its workings to the full subject. I want to keep it quite open so everyone will get a chance to take a photo of some sort and allow a variety of photos. As the subject is transport anything that gives the sense of motion would be preferable, but a static photo can still enter and win if its better than the rest!

Entries to be received by end of day 11th August
Voting starts on the 4th and closes end of day 18th August

Monthly Competition Rules:

The aim of this is to get people out and to use their cameras in different ways to what they might normally do so, to achieve this the rules state that the photograph must be taken in the submission period of the competition and relate to the theme in some way.

Each month a different thread will be created and at the end of the submission period a poll will be added including all entries that are deemed valid. Non valid entries will be automatically excluded. The named winner then copies over the text of this post and replaces the theme with one of their choice.

Include a description of a few words as to why you feel your picture fills the theme.

Once the thread has been started peoples entries have to be posted in that thread. Each entrant is only allowed ONE POST in the thread to cover ONE IMAGE that he has entered. The last image posted is the one that will be used, all others will be removed when a Mod/admin has a spare moment ...

The submission will last 4 weeks and voting will last 1 week

No we changed it a bit to do 4 weeks then 1 week voting, as before it meant that some people couldnt vote or submit pictures in time, and think that was part of the reason it died out before, will edit the rules slightly as it still reads partly from the old rules

That contrast looks excessive on my screen, retina burningly so!

In retrospect I agree and retract my comment, I wasnt in a sound state of mind.

Well I liked the contrast. I like both versions, original looks like a B&W poster shot, contrasted version looks "artsy" in the sense of OTT post processing.

Yeah, nuts - I realise this now. The odd thing is somehow I thought Id read this thread before the weekend too. Must too much crack again...

Edit: As for the contrast debate Sexytw thanks for the comments - ur version was a bit too much for my taste but there was probably a version in between the two that mightve been a bit stronger.

Yep I agree on the contrast, just a little tweak on the first picture maybe, just to bring out the gradient of the sky. But I think the original is still a good pic and a good exposure.

16th of July, just outside my office

Im lucky enough to work at the UK Defence Academy, we get treated to a display every graduation day. We get a good view too, with there being virtually no crowd.

This is the one I want to enter at the moment:

Nice shots, i was thinking about doing some long exposure traffic myself.

Post by: XEntity on July 29, 2010, 21:39:53 PM
Cheers, I hadnt planned on doing it, as was kinda expecting other people to do it, but it was really dark, much darker than it looks.

Was 13 second exposure I think, and just happened to have a car go past and thought it made the shot much better than the shot without

Im sure there is/was a rule you couldnt pick two in a row, and second place then chooses instead, but Im expecting someone else to win this one, its still early yet, and I know that you guys are easily capable!

Really good picture, I like the old yellowed effect, you could also add some scratches/noise to it to make it feel a bit tatty, this site has some:

Well looks like a plane, likely a passenger one that goes very fast....

Concord?

Where was it taken - is it in some museum or something now?

Not hard to work out really was it, yeah Concorde. That was the last ever concorde built G-BOAF, currently parked outside at Filton where it was built, it has a visitors center but shes being taken out of the pubic domain in the autumn for maintenance and there is no reopen date, rumour is she wont be back.

Shes quite a sorry sight really sat outside, plastic stuffed in places to stop birds nesting out in all weathers.

There are a few others about in the country in museums so can still see one if you want.

Should have been obvious it was Concorde, no other passenger plane goes faster than sound.

I was incredibly disappointed when they decided to pull them from service. They might have used up lots of fuel but they were also massive status symbols for the UK and France, something that no other country has managed to achieve.

Eat your hearts out Yankees! :P
