Some of you may remember I purchased this lens ages ago but then never really used it. Thought Id have a play with it this morning as Ive been getting more and more into my camera recently.

Took a few shots at my desk:

Its a pretty damned good lens for the money - a bit awkard to carry due to the step down converter it needs but the result is pretty good. I also have a 4x close up lens (55m screw in) which is easier to use but nowhere near as powerful as this. Highly recommended.

Im actually thinking about upgrading to an S5800 - anyone know any good deals?

I dont remember you buying it (well, vaguely remember something)...but am interested in a brief rehash of the specs, cost etc?

My search for a macro lens is an off and on affair for the last 2 years or so. I keep wanting to get a decent macro lens, looking, and then deciding I cant afford it!

Theyre about £60 on Ebay - think I paid about half that in 2007 though so can probably get cheaper if you look. Im really impressed - the close ups you can get are awesome! If I do upgrade to a s5800 Ill definitely keep this lens and get an adapter ring for it.

Ah, so its another filter/close up lens affair, rather than a real macro lens? :(

Rivkid

Yeah - I have to have it this way as the S5600 has a fixed lens

Serious

To have it any other way you would need an SLR, then the price rockets for the lens, ~£240 for a sigma 50mm macro or ~£370 for a Canon 60mm. It would be much higher for a professional lens.

Rivkid

Yeah absolutely - and this is more than enough for what I need.

Mongoose

second hand is the way forward with SLR macro lenses, at that distance youll end up focusing manually anyway and a good one can be had for under £100.

The Raynox seems to be the best way for those with fixed lenses though, its surprisingly good.
