2 days work left - few more pics
on: November 06, 2007, 22:15:57 PM
Got a good bit done so far now.

Made the mount for the intercooler, in the process of making the pipes up for it now.

Few pics

The fuel swirl pot in the boot

The new turbo heat jacket on the hot side (It has a nice zip up jacket to go on top of this wrap)

The beast of an intercooler

Making up some of the pipework

And just to show the scale of it a VERY dusty pic (Car hasnt been washed since I started work on it)

How is the air going to flow over the intercooler?

damn thats intercooler is big :o

are you going to add fans to it ?  or a rear facing boot vent so air will be sucked out as you drive along ?   something even more cunning ?

There are 2 x permanently on 12 inch fans to mount on top of it - air is drawn from the sides of the car through the original side vents ducted into the boot, and expelled through the cutout in the boot floor. There is a heat shield between this and the exhausts. I was originally going to go for a scoop up top and expel out the back, but I want to keep it as sleeper as possible. Its going to be all the more fun destroying 911 turbos with a relatively standard looking car :)

Your crazy but I love it :)

Im still rather confused about that Intercooler system, in my head it just doesnt work. Any chance you have seen anything that can be classed as proof of concept? Just scared you wont have enough cold air constantly coming to it. :)

seen a few of them - one is on a 700rwhp drag car and his inlet temps are nice and low.

i would be tempted to make a diffuser and have air coming from the bottom and expelling through the top rear cover. nice tho :D

The exhausts and the engine heat would affect it worse there though as Id be pulling hot air through it - although the only time it will really matter is when its standing still, as when its moving there is a massive airflow in through the side vents into the boot - dont want to waste that natural scoop effect that also means no extra bodywork.

There is also no room underneath for a scoop due to the twin exhausts

Whats the lag going to be like on that blower?

Ive got a mate with a crazy blown RS500 and the thing will get spanked by my Mums panda right up to the point where it shreds the tires (in the first 3 gears)

Hopefully not too bad - the pipework is still quite short, and there is a good bit of overlap on the exhaust cam - Im expecting it to be around 1k RPM higher than stock.

Ill give one tomorrow! Still waiting on 2 bloody pipes. hope to have them monday.

the small, slow road test (as i had no bov) went well - started to put a guesstimate fuel map on it and have it idling well.

slightly harder to start than stock as there is a bit more cold clearance in the bores.

exhaust is a lot louder now as discharge on the turbo is twice as large!! Some growl off it.

The external wastegate scared the life out of me the first time it opened!

Holy sh*t

I started the road testing & basic mapping today.

Im going to have to take a video - the damned thing sounds like something out of a computer game - the turbo sounds awesome, the wastegate sounds awesome, words cannot describe it. Ill have to do a video.

Its going to be seriously fast - like not just fast, but a different league altogether.
