Apparently theyve toned down some of the cartoonishness so hopefully this will be a much better series

I think top gears success isnt because its a car show, but because they take the piss. If they tried to get more serious theyll lose a massive part of the audience. Their main demographic are people that like to look at the fancy cars theyll probably never even see IRL because they look fancy, and dont care about whats under the bonnet, and enjoy the humour (incl. me). Make it more serious and itll end up being like 5th gear, which is a failed top gear attempt IMHO, and has many less viewers...

I agree with all three of you - I dont know exactly what is being taken out, it was a comment I read somewhere (possibly in the newspaper) - I think some elements need to be adjusted to avoid going stale but I definitely dont want to see all the fun taken out of it just the same. Its like sketch shows like Little Britain, the Fast Show, etc. Generally funny at first but then the more you see the same jokes over and over the less likely you are to laugh. If they keep the same methods but just mix up the gags a little more like they usually do it should work out fine. The challenges and adventures are never tiresome but they are always the freshest parts of the show and they still have some of that pisstaking humour.

I just wish theyd ditch the star in a reasonably priced car but I have a feeling that its part of their mandate for the kind of show that they do. I imagine that the attraction of having celebs on is something that the bean counters can use to justify the shows budget, especially now that there are so few chat shows.

I want them to keep SIARPC just on the off chance that I ever become famous enough to go on it!

not because I will, or because I would like to be that well known particularly, but just because the spot looks like great fun.
