Yes, but Scanias are built for torque and have quite a few more litres
last time I looked out of curiosity on their site, iirc they have some 16 litre V8s!
Thats 2 litres per cylinder.. completely built for torque, not bhp & revs.
The dieselmax must be a good balance of bhp & torque because they cant rely on 18 or whatever gears to keep the engine in the powerband - it needs to rev higher happily.
No diesel is built to rev highly. That one in particular - 2 hours at full pelt. A tricked up lorry engine, that is built a lot heavier than a digger engine would sustain that kid of abuse longer.
Id say the speed was all high gearing - wonder if theyll do a VW and claim good mpg because they used an absurdly high top gear LOL
