4 wheel drive..
on: April 15, 2009, 09:22:43 AM
Anyone know which is most reliable / clever?

Looking mid-late 90s cars

Subaru (legacy afaik all subarus are AWD)
Audi (quattro thinking a4 a6 avant)
Volvo (V70R AWD)
Mitsubishi (galant vr4)

Looking for a sub £3000 4x4 estate car that will hopefully be able to drag itself out of a muddy field should it need to.

the old legacys are pretty ugly but sound perfect for what your after. new ones are really nice but out of your budgie.

Cant go wrong with an Audi Avant Quattro, the 1.9tdi might be abit slow though.

Galant VR4 is a very nice motor, they look so evil, but so are the fuel bills, an LPG one might be worth a look.

Just put a deposit on this:

Legacy Outback H6 3.0, 51 plate (2002), 95k miles, FSH, £2800, as you can probably tell from the price.. its not mint.

Needs a damn good clean inside and out, polish as its been through the carwash a million times, looks like a dog has roughed the leather in a couple of places and the door handles in the back, could use a new bit of trim on the boot lid as well. Been sat for 2 months so battery was flat, started first time with a jump and sounded smooth and great, no huge clouds of smoke either, oil looked clean and no mayo so seems to be solid, 2 flat tyres and the spare is on so can assume theres at least 1 puncture somewhere, brake discs are rusty but should clear, not driven it but its going for an MOT next week and he says its solid, and i can have my cash back if im not happy after iv driven it. Sounds fair to me.
