Ahhh, perfectly tuned wheels

Id not gotten around to doing one of my famous tune jobs on the fixie--as I usually wait till the factory build starts wobbling a couple mms--which never happened. The things were within a mm true from side to side, and had 2mm variances in vertical true.

Fixed the vertical true, then the lateral true--making sure I had perfectly equal spoke tension by listening to plucked spokes, then brought up front and rear tension by an entire turn, destressed to unwind the spokes and seat them in the flanges, then a final whisper of a true. Within 0.3mm of vertical and 0.2mm lateral true. Good enough.

36 Sapim spokes with double wall eyeleted rims and no dish front and rear--I think theyre good for the next ten years at least.

IRC Tandems at 75psi are the business for curb hopping, btw. :D

lol! :D Ive lost my faffing with my bike days, most faffing I do now is fitting new things to it, or removing stuff.

Wheels, services and whatnot, I go bikeshopwards.

Just out of curiosity, how long do tyres last? I.E. Do I wait until the casing is visible? or I get punctures? or what?

Hand tuning machine built wheels aint faffin, its like insurance. I had a similar set of wheels like this on my Marin that I dialed in nice. They gave me 30K w/o nary a mm out of whack. Invest a penny of time and save a dollar.

I go internets. Wheel dialing is just something that can intersect with lager consumption time anyway.

Yes. Till theyre visibly tatty, or you start flatting. Ive gotten from 2K to 17K from a set. The latter being some shockingly hard Chinese tires that came stock on a city bike. They never flatted...and were pretty dicey in the corners. Best bet: wait till rear gets tatty, rotate front to rear, put new on front.
