Well, took the engine out of the MR2 yesterday and spent most of this evening stripping it down.

Here are a few pics of my ordeal. Forgive the quality, theyre all off the phone.

First couple of hoses off

All pipework off from the top, ready for dismantling crossmember & suspension underneath

A shot of the inlet with the injectors exposed, and some of my labelling :)

Another shot of my masking tape labelling system :)

Got her up on the lift then to remove this beasty (Yes I know the shafts are off in this pic, it was the only one I had of the crossmember still in the car)

Tie bars then came off meaning I could swing the hubs out

And then pull the driveshafts out

Disconnect the droplinks, and get the bugger out

We then raised the car away from the engine on the lift, and I was extremely glad to be left with this when the lift went up

The pile of parts mounting in the corner

Have a look at this for a hosing nightmare - This is going to be a nasty one to replum!!

This is the last time this turbo will be on the engine :)

Head off

And the block

After all that Im well knackered, and there is at least as much work to go! I have all the bolts out of the gearbox and will split it from the block tomorrow. Have a 6 plate clutch to go in there to take the new horspepower and torque!

Tbh Id almost suggest videoing it whilst working, might help putting it all back together, even assuming you know what youre doing!

any of the pipes/cables Im likely to forget are labelled - hopefully that should be enough. I was able to tear down and rebuild, then get an Mi16 back in to a BX in 3 days and that was including rewiring the entire loom for the megasquirt!

im not wanting to sound like a tit or arrogant but having had a turbo engine out and stripped i think tbh all the hoses and stuff will be pretty obvious if you trace them back since you know how stuff works youll know various feeds and what needs what.. or at least i think i could work it out

You found the problem? Cant tell from them pics.

aye theyre fairly well laid out - all connectors only fit one socket etc but just labelled the lot as i always do (even bike engines) just in case. speeds things greatly!

I admire anyone who can and is willing to take an engine out and work on it

Do you plan to make it look brand spanking new since you are that for or at least get it gleaming as much as possible?

Is this the one with the suspect rings?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

is indeed. new ones on the forged pistons are going to have to take close to 2.0 bar boost
