I got a Golf

VW Golf 1.8 20V GTI Non Turbo

First impressions

It roars, its quite nippy surprisingly, motorway was smooth, driving local is fun.

Stereo is great, really bassy, quite surprised, it feels like my audi inside, only it has more headroom :P

Body is a bit untidy, but i got it cheap xD £1000 for an S plate

Need some new wheels now, it has 15s on it as standard.

Budgeted well, so now i can spend more on my new 2 wheeler :P

Well uh 3 choices, 1.8 20v , 2.0 8v sh*t, or 1.8 20v turbo, seeing as i went for the non turbo, still the 20v, hmm more bhp, better fuel economy, cheaper insurance, and i dont understand why its a bad engine, unless ofc you mean the fact its an AGN or w/e, i could have got the turbo, but im about to spend best part of a thousand on my mtb to xD so was budgeting for that also

For the cost no one could complain... What exact engine code have you got? I just have heard to many bad stories about the straight 20v engines.

Get some photos up :)

AGN, 20v

The 20v lump is the same engine as all the turbos, only without the turbo, so sit there and tell me its sh*t, it produces 125bhp compare to the sh*tty 2.0 8v  115bhp.

Nice choice. A friend has the GTi 1.8 20v and it seems spot on, built like a tank and nippy enough when needed.

Only problem he has had was the stupid cable electric window mechs imploded and his window fell out.

Engine seems really smooth and very torquey low down and has a really long cambelt life, untill 120,000 miles or somthing like that.

I dont care what stories you heard, its probably from some spottied "i used to own a nova" numpty mother f**ker, who blew his engine cus he doesn/t know wtf oil is.


Speaking opf oil I was considering getting cooking oil for my car engine, what do you think? :heehaw:

good choice... cant beat a golf got the 1.8T myself

heres a tip before you go spending money on bits join up to clubgti and you will get 10% at GSF  - oh and get it remapped and a milltek exhaust its just car porn then 8-)

a remap will net you about 0.5bhp on a NA - not worth it.
