Idiots
on: September 03, 2011, 17:29:09 PM
Got up this morning to find the Astra and my Stepfathers Peugeot have been massively keyed down the sides, there are 2 large scratches on each, the ones on my Astra are down to the metal and there are paints shavings all over the paint work, annoyed as i was considering trading the Astra in in the next few weeks for a newer diesel.

So the options, my car is worth £1300 ish, the Peugeot is worth about £3-4k, for my car its pointless spending any money on spraying the panels or claiming on the insurance, so i'm wondering whats the best product to use, touch up pens look rather amateur and rarely seem to match correctly, so some kind of colour magic, are there any new products on the market?

Your best bet I reckon is to try and get a matching spray from halfords. Alan did a reasonable job touching up the BMW and the paint was really faded on that. I think if you take the time to mask/do it properly or get a mate or that mobile mechanic you know (anyone with a bit of experience) you should be able to get a reasonable job done, far better than those sh*tty sticks, I've tried those before and they are not worth wasting money on. A pro would have it looking spotless but if its more than one panel you're right about it costing you loads. It might be worth calling around for a quote though, the money spent on that could be reclaimed when you come to sell vs a rough looking job. I had a mobile one out to respray the whole rear bumper of MX-5 in Silverstone lacquered, it looks perfect when done and cost me about £75/£100, not sure which.

I'm aiming to not spend more than a tenner as if it hadn't been for some idiot i would be spending anything, i just want it to look tidy for if i decide to trade it in.

a cheap, bodged touch up is going to look worse than the scratch. Get it done properly or not at all imo.
