Insurance Renewal Price!
on: February 03, 2007, 11:11:03 AM
Just got my insurance renewal through for RAC this morning, and was unpleasantly surprised.

they wanted me to pay £625.65 for the car Full Comp, or 586.78 TPT after i rang them.  Now I dont drive anything fancy, ive full no-claims, the car is alarmed & Imobilised.   Its stored up the drive at night, and i only do about 10k a year.  I was surprised as last year i paid just a whisker under £300 FC.
Anyone else know a decent, and not overly expensive insurance company fro a 1.5 Civic?  Best quote ive had so far was £325 from AA, but i loath those wankers after i had to make a claim years back.

my best advice is to shop around, or if you cant be arsed just go to confused.com and see what they throw up.

If you have time on your hands I have an Excel spreadsheet with all the major (and some not so major) companies on with their websites etc on it.

after some serious hunting around : £274 TPT with protected no-claims.  The car isnt worth paying out the extra £125 for Fully Comp.  I think ill take that one :)

fully comp is handy if your in an accident, because wether its your fault or not, itll all be paid for and sorted instead of having to wait for age !

like when I was crashed into and had to go to court... id have been paying for the solicitors myself then tyring to get re-embursed by the other guys a year down the line..... but it was all taken care of with 1 phone call :)

Considered that, but ive checked and i can instruct my own solicitors on the legal cover that comes with the policy.  The dude charges £75 per letter, so if i have an accident and it isnt my fault ill just instruct him to go ahead, and hell claim the money back from the insurance company in the event he doesnt get paid by the 3rd party insurance.  My car is too old, and too cheap for me to keep goiong fully comp on it, would only caost me ~£600 for a replacement.

Have you tried some of the smaller companies? The younguns these days go on about Adrian Flux and Liverpool Victoria, but I dont know if they get picked up by the likes of confused and the AA.

Remember the AA dont provide insurance, they just act as an intermediary, so you should be able to go direct to the company they got the quote from.

I have seen people buy cars for a few hundred and then shell out over a thousand quid on fully comp insurance...

If they could afford that much insurance then they should be able to afford a better car!

I think insurance in general is going up this year.

Im with Norwich union atm.  My TPTF quote has gone up from paying £410 this year to £545 in march for my renewal. 21, No Convictions, No Points, 2 Years NCB (Come March).

Slightly dissapointed, but Im happy enough with it.
